You and I sat in the same student section at the same time (I was there from 98-03). I saw us balk at Torbush taking us to a Las Vegas Bowl. Now, eight years later, we're desperate to win a conference game. I saw us lose to Duke for the first time in 13 years. A decade ago we thought Mack Brown was going to take us to a major bowl game every year. That Tire Bowl seems so long ago, and that Peach Bowl might as well be part of Dr. McCoy's Ancient Greece course. The fanbase six years ago demanded the firing of Carl Torbush because he was unable to continue the winning ways of Mack Brown, and looking back, we might have been - MIGHT have been better off. I with you, Bunting is a heck of a guy, he's going to make a great Defensive coordinator somewhere else. He certainly will make a better coach than Dave Huxtable. We have gone nowhere in eight years while the conference has moved ahead. Maybe that's why we voted against expansion.

I maintain that the problem is not Bunting, but the athletic department. Unter the reign of Dick Braddour, we lost Mack Brown to Texas, prematurely forced Dean to retire, got the lousiest hoops recruiting ever under Bill Gutheridge, The Season That Shall Not Be Named, and the debacle that was Matt Doherty. I think that if changes are made, we need to start at the top. As the largest university in this state, and with the money the athletic program can muster, we can easily put a major program in place. We've made some great strides in the last ten years, updating the stadium and the facilities. I think the problem is the athletic department has great tools they don't know how to use. If we want a strong football program to equal the hoops program, we need some key administrative renovations, and Chancellor Moeser's experience at Nebraska could come in handy.
