December 8 is HeelsBlog's first birthday. Here's a link to the very first HeelsBlog post.
I started the site as a forum for me to express my ideas and opinions on all things having to do with Tar Heel athletics.
It's been a whole lot of fun, even if I haven't been able to write as much as I'd have liked in the first year. There were a lot of posts that first month, as the basketball Heels were showing what kind of force they were going to be, and the football Heels were preparing for the Continental Tire Bowl. It's slowed down considerably since, but 244 articles is pretty good.
I want to thank you for making HeelsBlog a stop during your web surfing to check out one fan's opinion. Also many thanks to the contributors I've enlisted at various points along the way. A special note of appreciation has to go to HeelsBlogGirl, who's been right beside me at countless Tar Heel games. Football, basketball, volleyball, whatever. We've had a blast supporting our alma mater. She's also been great about throwing her two cents in on the topic of the day.
Last week, I renewed the domain for another year. I've had too much fun to stop now. Here's to a great first year, and more to come.
In celebration of HeelsBlog's birthday, I'd like everyone - EVERYONE - who has ever signed up for an account to comment on this thread with your favorite Tar Heel moment from the past year. It could be something you experienced personally (running into Rashad McCants at Barnes & Noble), or something we all experienced with the Heels.
But if you're going to say the NCAA Championship, tell me something specific about the game or season. The moment you knew this was special. A block, steal, dunk or shot that told you how much fun this was going to be.
I've had a lot of fun HeelsBlogging. Thanks for stopping by. I look forward to your comments.

Congrats...been enjoyable to read this past year.
Having Carolina win the national title in my hometown would be the top moment in and of itself, much less being in the Dome for both games...but add it with this moment: helping to put on the annual Slam Dunk/3 Point Contest on the Thursday of Final Four weekend, and having both the ACC guys, Daniel Ewing and Taron Downey guarantee me that there was "no way" that Carolina could beat Illinois in a title game. I sure hope those guys enjoyed watching the game...knowing that their teams flamed out, while the Heels brought the hardware back to Chapel Hill. Re: A HeelsBlog birthday!

Tere have been so many!
The Nat'l Championships way up there at the top, of course. Me, balling my eyes out because I was so happy. I'm not sure about Rashad and B&N Also, the Old Well walks were always really special times before football games. Too many to mention. Thanks, HB. Re: A HeelsBlog birthday!

My biggest memory of Carolina athletics in the last year other than the NCAA Championship was the football team beating Miami. My grandmother had passed away that week and Elonheelgirl and I were driving to the mountains for the funeral listening to the game on the radio. There were several times where we had to stop on the side of the road because the signal was going in and out. After Barth kicked the winning field goal, we rolled down our windows and screamed to the top of our lungs in downtown Hendersonville. It was truly a night to remember.

being that i'm a wolfpack fan, i don't exactly have a favorite tar heel moment. but since i have signed up for an account, i figured i'd best not miss out on this birthday celebration. i will say that last year i watched our ncstate basketball team play closely and competitively against all of our acc opponents, except unc. the caliber of last year's team was definitely a step above that of any other team in the country, and this was obvious just from watching the way that you made us look like a high school team. that having been said, don't expect any more pro-unc comments from me.
