Tonight at 7 pm, the #3 Tar Heels face #8 Georgia Tech in their biggest test of the season to date. They are the deepest team the Heels have seen, and also very big in the frontcourt. Tech's game a few days back at Kansas proved they can play with anybody, even without B.J. Elder.
The Heels will have to play big down low, to combat Muhammad, McHenry, and Schenscher. We may see both Williams (Jawad and Marvin) and May in the game at the same time for several stretches.
Georgia Tech has two great guards in Jarrett Jack and Will Bynum, who is one of the quickest players in the nation. It will be interesting to see how they match up defensively, and who Jackie Manuel will face.
Do the Heels remember the heartbreaking loss to Tech in the ACC Tournament last year? Sure they do, and they want to grab one from the Jackets here early in ACC play. It's a shame that there is no more round-robin play in the ACC, as it would be nice to see Carolina go down to Alexander. The winner of this game has an advantage in the regular season ACC standings, and a lot is on the line for an early game.
Will the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets be the first Tar Heel opponent to come within 20 points in the past five weeks? Probably. They are talented, experienced, and deep. But the home court advantage puts the Tar Heels over the edge in this matchup, and the Heels win by twelve. Let's hope so, anyway. Go Heels!
