Yes, this is HeelsBlog. As in Tar Heels. But Duke University is our primary rival in basketball. It's one of the premier rivalries in all of college sports. So today I am going to drop some knowledge about Duke basketball: I predict that they will lose Wednesday night in Cameron Indoor Stadium to Princeton University.
Yes, I said it. Princeton, from New Jersey and the Ivy League, will beat Duke, the school that wants so badly to be Princeton. Duke is very very vulnerable right now. Shavlik Randolph is out with "mononucleosis" (ask me why it's in quotes), Reggie Love is out several weeks with a broken foot, and the only legitimate post threat they have is Shelden Williams.
Duke almost lost to Clemson on Sunday, in a game that was much closer than the final score. Sharrod Ford did just about whatever he wanted to down low. Princeton is the kind of team that can slow their opponent down and keep close in games they have no business winning. This year, they have two players at 6'10 getting meaningful minutes. Duke does not have anyone to help Shelden Williams.
Princeton is 8-4 at this point, having lost to Syracuse by 11 in the second game of the season. They just beat Davidson, who only fell by 13 to Duke at full strength.
Be watching Wednesday at 7 on ESPN. Stranger things have happened.
