So N.C. State took 35 days to hire Herb Sendek's replacement, and they ended up with Sidney Lowe. By all accounts, Lowe is a good guy, and of course he was the point guard on the 1983 NCAA Championship team for Jim Valvano. I don't have much to stay about N.C. State, but I think Lowe should have been much higher on the list. Above guys like Beilein and Lavin with no tangible connection to the school, for sure. A guy like Lowe with NBA connections, who konws how to get kids into the league, will surely help recruiting.
Some thought State's requirement of a four-year degree was silly, and I do think it's silly that it's taken Lowe until this summer to get his degree. But do you think a coach can really expect his players to go to class if he doesn't have a degree himself?
Lots of people (non-State fans) said Sendek should not have been run off. I like Herb Sendek, but I think Carolina fans would have done the same thing. So good luck to Sidney Lowe, just not against Carolina.
Just my thoughts. I'm working on the 2005-06 Top Ten for early June.

i gotta keep this short, cause i'm real busy. but i don't want you to think that i don't appreciate you commenting on nc state, cause i do. anyway, i'm excited about getting lowe and towe back at nc state. i think that our student body has no hope of ever being as good as unc and duke, because no one there ever remembers being that good. not that i'm much older, but i did watch the '83 championship as a 2 year old in my mother's lap. but it's good to have some guys there that know that we also have a rich basketball heritage, and who experienced it first-hand. now, does that make them capable of bringing us back up to that national level? of course not. but at least it brings hope. and it brings 2 guys that know the direction that we want to go in, and know how we want to go there. they've both got a lot of support right now. will they still have that support after we lose all of our duke and unc games next year? probably not. but as long as each year we get closer to that level, and as long as they hate unc and duke as much as the fans, then they'll have my support. i think in the end that was sendek's problem. not that he lost to unc and duke all the time, but that he didn't mind losing to them any more than he did losing to anyone else. if nc state wins every game they play except the ones against unc and duke, then the fans will still not be happy. and now we've got a pair of coaches that won't be happy about it either.
